Today’s #TBT takes us back to a building many of you will recognize! The historic Wilkinson Building in Normal Heights included a restoration and structural upgrade of a two-story, URM brick building with mixed use – commercial and residential. The scope of work included replacement of all exterior windows with historically relevant wood windows; removal, cleaning and replacement/re-grouting of exterior brick; and structural integration of wall anchors and tie rods to stabilize the building. Seven existing steel columns were permanently shored up with new steel columns welded in place prior to replacement of the brick at the south elevation. The work was done with residential and retail tenants remaining in place. We managed the design, GC selection, permitting, bidding and construction process of this prominent building in Normal Heights!
